Help / Run several devices

Pair a second iPhone, iPad or Mac

On the device holding the script, open Nearby and tap Host on this device. On the other device, open Nearby, pick the host and type the four-digit code it shows. After that the two reconnect by themselves.

  1. Put both on the same network. Wi-Fi, an Ethernet or USB-C network cable, or a direct link from device to device.
  2. Host on the device with the script. In the library, tap Nearby, then Host on this device (on a Mac, the Session menu has Nearby too). From inside a script, Settings, then Session, has Host a session. The host opens a 90-second pairing window and shows a four-digit code.
  3. Join from the other device. Open Nearby, pick the host under Prompters and type the code. The host can also tap Allow for a device it names.
  4. Pick a role. Join as Remote to drive the prompter and see what it sees, or Monitor to see it and touch nothing. The host can make any device an Editor, a remote that can also fix the words, from its list of devices. Roles switch any time without reconnecting, and Make Host hands the session to another device.

If a device can't find the session

  • Allow Local Network for Cutvey Teleprompter (iPhone and iPad: Settings, Privacy & Security, Local Network).
  • Check both are on the same network. Some guest and venue networks keep devices from seeing each other; a cable avoids that.
  • Five wrong codes close the pairing window. On the host, open the session sheet and tap Add Device for a new code.
  • A session holds eight devices by default, browsers included. The host can change Devices allowed, from 1 to 16.

Who can see the script

Sessions run on your own network and never pass through a Cutvey server. The link between devices is plain, so anyone who can read that network could read the script: pair on a network you trust, and only with devices you trust.

If that didn't work

Tell us which devices, which network (Wi-Fi, cable or direct) and what the joining device shows. Write to us.
