Free teleprompter tools
Four free tools that run in your browser with no sign-up: an online teleprompter, a script timer, a reading pace test and a text size calculator. None of them sends or stores your script.
The tools
| Tool | What it does |
|---|---|
| Online teleprompter | Paste a script and read it in the browser: speed, size, line width, a reading line, both mirrors and full screen |
| Script timer | How long a script runs at a keynote, self-tape, piece to camera, voiceover or commercial pace, or your own, and whether it fits the spot |
| Reading pace test | Read a passage aloud and get your own words a minute, with no microphone |
| Text size calculator | How big the words should be from where you stand, words a line and how far your eyes move |
How long is a script?
| Running time | Words at our sample paces |
|---|---|
| 30 seconds | About 60 to 90 |
| 1 minute | About 120 to 180 |
| 2 minutes | About 240 to 360 |
| 3 minutes | About 360 to 540 |
| 5 minutes | About 600 to 900 |
| 10 minutes | About 1,200 to 1,800 |
The ranges run from 120 to 180 words a minute. Speaking rate, explained.
The rules every tool follows
- Runs in your browser. Nothing to install, no sign-up, no account.
- Sends nothing. After the page loads it makes no request. Your script never leaves your device.
- Stores nothing. No cookies, no saved scripts. Settings that help, like a speed or a pace, sit in the page address so you can share a setup, and the script never does.
- Copes with real scripts. Paste a long one, a right-to-left one or an empty box, and each tool says what it can do.
When you need more
The tools are free for a quick read or a plan. Cutvey Teleprompter is the app for the real thing: voice follow on the device, the Apple Watch and pedals as remotes, several iPhones, iPads and Macs on one script, recording under the lens, and captions and markers for the edit. $19.99 once. How it works.
