Help / Run several devices
Devices can't find each other
Allow Local Network for Cutvey Teleprompter on both devices, make sure the host is hosting, and put both on the same network or a cable. Some guest and venue Wi-Fi keeps devices from seeing each other.
- Allow Local Network. If the app shows "Local Network is off for this app", tap Open Settings, then Privacy & Security, Local Network, and turn on Cutvey Teleprompter. On the Mac it's in System Settings. The app looks again as soon as you do; there's no need to quit.
- Start hosting first. On the device with the script, open Nearby and tap Host on this device. The joining device lists it under Prompters as Hosting a session.
- Use the same network, or a cable. Both on the same Wi-Fi, or an Ethernet or USB-C cable between them, which is used by itself whenever it's there. Failing both, the devices try to find each other directly, with no network.
- Try away from guest Wi-Fi. Hotel, office guest and venue networks often block devices from seeing each other. The app's own advice is that a cable between the devices is best, and it uses one by itself whenever there is one.
The permission prompt explains what it's for: the app looks for other copies of itself on the network so one device can drive the prompter on another, and nothing is sent off your network. Sessions never pass through a Cutvey server.
If the joining device says "The two devices are running different versions of the app", update both.
